Parent Information
Special Education Parent Information
We provide support to students through Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 plans. Both offer formal help for K-12 students who are struggling in school. They are similar in some ways but very different in others. The information below will help you understand the procedures for each of the plans as well as your rights and the responsibilities of our district in supporting your student.

Individual Education Programs (IEPs)
Federal Part B-IDEA
Heath City Schools will be receiving Federal Part B-IDEA (Flow Thru) funds to be used in the area of special education. These funds are generated by the "Child Count" of students with disabilities within a school district as of December 1, two years prior to the current school year. Part B-IDEA funds must be used specifically to serve children with disabilities, although non-disabled students may also benefit when these services are provided in the regular classroom setting. There are stringent guidelines limiting the use of this funding, and the proposed budget must be approved by the Office for Exceptional Children of the Ohio Department of Education. Budget amendments are made as needed during the course of the school year.

Heath City School residents are invited to participate in the development of the annual Part B-IDEA budget by sending suggestions to the Director of Special Education, Heath City Schools, 107 Lancaster Dr, Heath, Oh 43056. All responses will be considered carefully and, if they fall within the guidelines for usage, will be prioritized on the basis of their appropriateness and overall benefit to students in special education programs.

504 Plans
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is a federal civil rights law to stop discrimination against people with disabilities. A is a blueprint for how the school will provide support and remove barriers for a student.
