2019 Stevenson Pennies for Patients Program
Pennies for Patients Student participants
March 18, 2019

I am excited to give you an update on our Pennies for Patients Program and the Blood Drive held at Stevenson Elementary.  Students at Stevenson teamed up to bring in spare change and raise money to fight cancer.  We also had pint-size heroes that recruited donors to give blood to those in need.  There was a little friendly competition between the classrooms, which was great watching the students synergize towards a common goal.
Our goal for the Blood Drive was to collect 28 pints of blood.  Our students recruited 27 donors.  This is fantastic, as there is currently a shortage in the blood bank.  Those students who recruited adults to donate received an American Red Cross medallion on a lanyard.  Thank you to those parents and staff members who stepped up and donated.

Our Stevenson Bulldogs pulled together and collected $4,333.85 this year for our Pennies for Patients service project.  This is phenomenal how much they collected.  All of our classrooms raised over $100, some raising over $200 and $300.  Those student raising over $25 were awarded with free meal vouchers to Applebees and soda at Market Street Soda.  Our top fundraising bulldogs with over $100 were Nicholas Stephenson and Noah Busic, and Jordan Kaminsky at $350.  Jordan received a Tim Horton’s gift card.

We had 5 classrooms that raised over $300, and the top two classrooms were only $14.09 apart from one another.  In 5th place, Mrs. Holmberg-Cameron’s room raised $300.13.  In 4th place, Mrs. Moore’s classroom raised $350.97.  In 3rd place, Mrs. Guglielmi’s room raised $402.55.  In second place, Mrs. Wetzel’s room raised $543.99.  In first place, the winner of our traveling trophy from the Columbus Crew and winner of the Olive Garden catered lunch is Mrs. Lutz’ class with $558.08.  What a fun morning for our Stevenson leaders.
Thank you to all those parents, staff and community members who helped support our efforts in raising funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and for donating blood for the American Red Cross.
