Principal's Message
Heath Families,

What an exciting start to the school year! Our students are off and running and incredibly focused on achieving their goals. 48% of our senior class has already applied to at least one college. Many students took advantage of our recent ASVAB and PSAT testing. More students than ever are carrying independent reading books with them from class to class, especially our freshman who seem to be leading the school in this practice right now.  And school spirit is riding high with one of the most positive and enjoyable Bulldog Rumble competitions we have had in years during Homecoming week.

But the excitement doesn’t stop there. Our staff is also off to an incredible start. Lindsay Clawson, our French teacher, was presented with the “Leaders for Learning” award by the Licking County Foundation. Our Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) team was awarded a Bronze level award by the Ohio Department of Education for their continuous work in providing a positive school climate and culture. Stephanie Clark, intervention specialist, and Ben Marteney, choir director, were named Heath High School’s “Champion of the Month” for their dedication to students.

Even with such a great start, we’re still working on getting better. We are continuing to increase our expectations of excellence for students in and out of the classroom.  This year, we have turned our attention to making study hall time more focused and productive by restricting cell phone use and encouraging students to take advantage of this time to study, complete work or prepare for their futures. I’m pleased to share that we are seeing an increase in productive work completed which will help students be better prepared for classes and balance their school work, extracurricular activities and commitments outside of school.

Heading into the second nine weeks, it is important to keep in mind that many students start the year strong but allow the stress, illness and busy schedules to derail their goals.  Coming to school every day, taking care of our minds and bodies, and using our time wisely at school can all contribute to immediate and future success.  This needs to be a priority as we enter into the winter months.

Thank you for all you do to support the students in your life.

Working Together,
Kat Fields, Principal
